I’m hosting a domain on server space that I just rented. I sometimes am told to issue commands to the server via command line but I have no idea how to do that. Can I do it through terminal on OS X?

I am at a lan with a bunch of mates, and we want to create a versus host to play against each other. However, whenever we start a versus map only 4 people can play (more can spectate) and we have to play as survivors.
How can I start a versus server that people can connect to from the console? Preferably not through a lobby.
